Big Paw Services and its Community
Big Paw Services are animal lovers and advocates. Being part of the community means being involved in the community. How are we involved besides volunteering our time and skills at local shelters or advocating animal, domestic or wild, life? Here are a few community services we offer at no charge as a way to say thank you to you, our community:
If you are thinking about adopting a new dog, let us help you choose the right fit for you. Some dog breeds should not be owned by first-time dog owners, whether they are rescue dogs or not. Such breeds, an Australian Cattle Dog (Blue or Red Heeler) for example, need an experienced, assertive handler, not a first-time or average dog owner. Training beginning as soon as you get the puppy home is a requirement! Lots of love, a big back yard for playing catch and running, and long walks (preferably long hikes or runs at least twice a week) are a must or you are adopting a bored, energetic, or potentially destructive dog with likely various degrees of aggressions.
There are too many rescue dogs in desperate need of new loving homes. To help promote pet adoptions from rescue shelters, Big Paw Services offers training discounts to companions of recently rescued dogs. This service also includes behavior modification advice as part of the overall rescue dog training program with life-time support via email or phone!
The humane society is widely known and a great organization. However, there are many other small rescue shelters out there, run by private personal funding. These small rescues want to give pets a better chance at a good life, even if they have the unfortunate luck of never being chosen for adoption. Small private rescues will never euthanize an animal, unlike the big corporate-like rescues. An older dog for them does not equate to less space for new, cute-looking puppies who have their own right to live happy, stable lives. Show your support as well and adopt or foster your next pet from a smaller shelter! Fostering is a great way to help small shelters, but more importantly, the pets! They get to live in your happy, loving, and nurturing home rather than a concrete floored, metal fenced, prison-like kennel.
We fostered Julian for three months from a small White German Shepherd Rescue. He wasn't the prettiest thing, but he had a huge heart full of love and kisses. If you met him and knew his story, you would be amazed that he gave humans a second change. His first year of life was full of abuse and neglect. He was chained to a tree with no shelter and little to no food in a Kansas City back yard. The first time he saw grass and had a walk was after weeks of hospitalization, after authorities rescued him; he was over 1 year old.
If you have the means, find a local shelter you approve of and donate whatever you can to help. It can be done by adopting, fostering, donating a few dollars, or giving your time and love by volunteering at a shelter! The furry guys will appreciate anything you do for them! If humanity could only emulate the unconditional love from dogs... See our links to find local shelters.
Time can be full of joyful experiences and fond memories. However, the fact remains that time will be unjust. Our loving pet companions do not get as much time on earth as we do. To help our community, Big Paw Services offers our support. We will go with you to the vet to support you while you spend the last moments with your pet. We realize this may be hard for many people. Therefore, we are willing to relieve you of the burden and take care of the final arrangements for you. We take no pleasure in this. We do not charge for this service. We do it because we went through those devastating times, wishing someone could be there to help.

Looking for a New Puppy?
Here I am at the doggie park sniffing hello with my four pawed community.
I love going to the park! It's the greatest socializing experience ever! We can run around leashless, chase our toys, or play tag with 20 other dogs.
What are you waiting for? Take your puppy to the park, or have us take him, you'll thank me later when your furry friend is calmer, less destructive, and happy.
