I went through puppy training.  It was actually fun and I didn't even know I was being trained.  That's the whole trick.  My dad makes it so much fun, you forget you're in school!

For proper socialization please make sure the breeder properly socialized your puppy with as many human beings as possible!  And NEVER bring home a puppy younger than 10 weeks old or you are likely to have a grown dog with a behavioral problem, aggression towards people or pets.

Between 8-12 weeks, your puppy will be learning that it is a canine, but more importantly, to accept strangers, humans or other pets by learning the behavior from his or her canine mother.  When we remove puppies from the litter before they learn this new instinct, that humans and other pets are not to be feared, they will grow with the natural instinct of protecting their family from anyone they do not know, human or pet.  Protecting is not limited to barking; it includes aggressive behavior such as staring down, hackles up, snarls and growls, nipping, and finally, biting.  These behaviors can occur all at once before we can recognize the warning signs as they can happen very quickly.

Sure, the younger the puppy the cuter it is, but is it worth getting a potentially aggressive dog?

Puppy training we will cover:

Big Paw Services knows the importance of puppy training.  If only puppies would never grow up!  Look how adorable our Henry was at 8 weeks old!  ‘took him three more months to learn how to use those BIG PAWS hence our name - he still has huge paws!

Puppy training typically runs from 3 - 4 lessons depending on your needs, wants, and dedication.  The more dedicated you are, the faster your puppy will learn!  Don't forget that all your puppy is trying to do is learn from you how to be a good puppy, but he or she needs your guidance, compassion, understanding and patience!

For more information, or to schedule your first lesson, please contact us.

We also offer a 1.5 hour pre-puppy consultation for first-time dog owners or anyone who prefers preparedness over the stress caused by the first few weeks a new puppy can bring into your home.  We cover ground rules of what to expect, how to deal with common issues or problems such as potty training, what to do while you are at work, and how to eliminating biting and barking.  We also help you puppy proof your home and create your puppy's new living area.  For more information, or to schedule your pre-puppy consultation please contact us.

Yes!  Puppy training can, and should, begin as early as the first day you bring him or her into your home!  It is crucial to start off right for the development of the pup and the future happiness in your home for the years to come.  These first few months with you are the most important times for your puppy's overall development, especially emotionally and socially. Your puppy is a learning sponge and needs a lot of attention and dedication.  What the puppy learns during his first four months  of life will most likely be the foundation for the rest of his or her life. Therefore, it is vita l to teach a new puppy the house rules, limitations, and establish the routine and structure every dog needs and desires from his or her human companion.  And most importantly, proper socialization!  The amount of play and interaction with humans and other dogs will determine the temperament and overall behavior of your pup in his/her adulthood.

I got a new puppy does he or she need training?
